April 2016 Newsletter

201604newsletter At the March Council Meeting the Council adopted a new policy for the Wednes-day bulk pick-up. This does not affect your regular trash pick up. Customers may set out bulk trash items by the curb that they want to dispose of. They will need to call into the city office to get their name on the list for this service. This service is available to all Oswego Residential Refuse Custom-ers. Items that are not in-cluded in this service are: rocks, car parts, ashes, hazardous materials, bricks, cement construction and demolition materials, brush, leaves and tires. Any appli-ance that contains Freon must have proof that the Freon has been removed by an authorized agent. There is no fee for this service. If a customer has not called in and yet a pile of items has been sitting by the curb for 2 weeks, the items will be presumed as trash and will be picked up.

If you are unsure as to whether the materials can be picked up, please call the City Office to check first 620-795-4433. This is a service that the City of Oswego provides as a con-venience for our citizens and an incentive to keep the town cleaned up. As with all services, misuse will jeopardize its existence.

The complete policy is available to view on the city’s website www.oswegokansas.com or at the City Office. Read the newsletter here.

2016-02ntKansas Hometown Showdown

The City of Oswego is participating in a photo contest sponsored by the League of Kansas Municipalities. It is called the Kansas Hometown Showdown! Here is how it works!

Cities all over the state of Kansas submit a photo and then they are paired up with another city. The photos will be posted on the Leagues Face Book page. Whichever photo gets the most “likes” goes to the next round. The winning photo will be on the cover of the Kansas Government Journal. So let’s show our Oswego Pride and get out the votes. Just be sure that you “vote” by liking the photo on the Leagues Face Book page, not the City of Oswego’s Face Book page. Each round lasts one week and the first round begins Feb. 23rd. We will keep everyone posted on the city’s Face Book page about our progress. When you see the city’s post please be sure to share it! Read the newsletter here.

December 2015 Newsletter

201512news Need a Structure Torn Down?

The City of Oswego will be going out for bids on some demolition projects shortly after the first of the year. If you too have a structure that needs to be torn down, you could possibly save money by having your demolition project done at the same time, by the same contrac-tor. Contractors usually give better rates per square foot when there is more than one structure to tear down. Property owners would have to agree to the demolition being done when the contractor does the demos for the city in order to receive the dis-counted rate. Since bids will not go out until after the first of the year, we wanted to let people know now so they have time to consider their options, ask questions and make arrange-ments. If you are inter-ested, please speak to City Clerk Carol Eddington at 620-795-4433. Read More.
