City Elections
2013 CITY ELECTION DATES AND INFORMATION:
January 22, 2013 – NOON – Last Day and Time to File for city office.
March 12, 2013 (Monday) – Last day to register to vote in 2013 City Election.
If you are new to the community, have moved or have not voted in several years
you will need to register to vote.You may register to vote at Oswego City Hall
or the Labette County Clerk’s Office.
April 2, 2013 – General Election.
Positions to be voted on for April 2013 Election:
Councilmember – Ty Lewis
Councilmember- Jane Rea
Councilmember – Terry Edwards
The city general election will be held on April 2, 2013. Three council positions
are up for election this year. They are currently held by Ty Lewis, Jane Rea
and Terry Edwards. Each position is for a 4 year term. Council positions are voted
on by all electors of the city. The deadline for filing for office is NOON on Tuesday,
January 22, 2013 (10 weeks prior to the election). All persons filing for positions
with the City of Oswego must file their applications at City Hall. The filing fee
is $5, or you can file by petition.
Since Oswego is city of the second class, candidates who do not intend to spend an
aggregate amount of $500 must file an affidavit of such intent with the COUNTY Election
Officer not later than the 9th day preceding the primary election. This deadline falls
on a Sunday in 2013, so these will be accepted until Monday, February 18, 2013. If
less than $500 is actually expended, no report need be filed. If more than $500 is
expended, an itemized campaign finance statement must be filed with the county
election officer within 30 days of the primary or general election.
Each person filing for office must complete the required forms and pay their fee.
The forms and information are available at City Hall at 703 5th Street. A booklet
"Guide for City Candidates" prepared by the League of KS Municipalities is available
to assist candidates at City Hall and is also available online at the League's
website www.lkm.org.
