City Issues Water Watch

The heat and lack of rain is taking its toll. As a result of the recent hot and dry conditions, the Neosho River
water flow has decreased and our demand on the water system has increased. We are now in a situation that could
become critical in the future if we don’t receive some rain along the Neosho River and above John Redmond reservoir.

As a result of the low water situation and increased daily water usage, we are issuing a Stage 1 Water Watch. This
is the first step in our Municipal Water Conservation Plan (MWCP). In a nut shell, the Stage 1 Water Watch is a
heightening of awareness of the water conditions for the public and an effort to maintain the integrity of our water
supply.  Our MWCP calls for activation of a Stage 1 Water Watch when our water reserve is less than 85%, our one-day
usage is in excess of 371,000 gallons, or the Kansas Water Office has issued a Stage 1 Water Watch. At this time
everyone should make sure they don’t have any water leaks, such as stools, faucets, hydrants, lines, etc. If you do
have any leaks you should repair them immediately. Please conserve water when you and your family can. The city will
monitor its own water usage and curtail activities such as hydrant flushing and street cleaning during the Stage 1
Water Watch.

Another thing you can do to help is if you see water running down the street, or if you see green grass and there is
no sign that it is being watered, please call the city office. There is a possibility that there is a broken water
line and we need to get it repaired. If conditions worsen, there are 2 more stages in our contingency plan; a Stage
2 Water Warning and a Stage 3 Water emergency. These stages will be triggered by more severe water conditions, and
water conservation requirements will be expanded at that time. Check the website often for updates on this situation.
Again, we are issuing a Stage 1 Water Watch, thank you for your efforts in conserving water.
